A second crossing of Bronte Creek is due to open this autumn
Halton Region's Wyecroft Road extension will carry four lanes, a watermain and cycling infrastructure across Bronte Creek into Burlington. The environmental assessment behind it was completed in 1994.
What happened
Halton Region is building an extension of Wyecroft Road and a bridge across Bronte Creek, connecting Oakville to Burlington. The project has been under construction since October 2023 and the Region gives completion as fall 2026.
What gets built is a four-lane roadway, the bridge itself, multi-use pathways, on-road bike lanes and a new watermain. The Region lists the watermain as servicing future growth and supporting the water supply in Oakville, which makes this a water project as much as a road project.
Lane restrictions at the intersection of Wyecroft Road and Bronte Road are in place through to November 2026 to support the work.

Why it matters
Bronte Creek is the western edge of Oakville, and there are very few ways across it. That is why the Region's stated benefits are mostly about relief: another route for motorists, less congestion on local roads and the QEW, and a shorter commute to Appleby and Bronte GO stations.
It also joins two blocks of employment land that currently face each other across a valley. The Region frames this as giving business owners, employees and customers easier access to work and retail, which in practice means the Wyecroft and Speers corridor gains a direct connection to Burlington's employment lands.
That corridor is changing at the same time. In August 2026 Council rezoned 2172 Wyecroft Road, beside Bronte GO Station, from industrial to urban core mixed use for about 1,191 homes. A road built to move goods between employment lands will open into a corridor that is being rebuilt around a commuter rail station.
