What is changing in Falgarwood

Context

Falgarwood in context

Falgarwood is a quiet, largely built-out community of 1970s and 1980s housing wrapped around Morrison Creek, and it has spent the last decade absorbing the overflow from faster-growing areas east of it rather than growing itself.

That is the reason it is in the news. When Joshua Creek Public School was running portables, the Halton District School Board directed students from a new pocket of housing near Dundas Street East and Prince Michael Drive into Falgarwood Public School. Trustees voted in June 2026 to review that arrangement and hand the pocket back, using the board's lighter Pathway 2 process, which does not require a parent boundary review committee. A decision is expected in winter 2026 and could take effect as early as September 2027.

Falgarwood is also one of four Oakville Transit Ride On-Demand zones, which for a low-density community is a more useful service model than a fixed route, and one of the clearer examples of the town treating different neighbourhoods differently on purpose.

Development

What is in the pipeline

  1. No active development or site plan applications appear on the Town's Ward 6 list for addresses inside Falgarwood as of 4 September 2026.
  2. The nearest activity is on Dundas Street East and Burnhamthorpe Road East to the north and east.
  3. Town-wide files still apply, including the 2027 budget direction and the interim control by-law on data centre applications.

The Town files active development and site plan applications by ward. For Falgarwood, start with Ward 6 on the Town’s active applications page. A ward is not the same shape as a neighbourhood; it is where the Town keeps the file.
