Oakville NE #1 Secondary School and French Immersion Review

Trustees approved new secondary boundaries for the high school opening in north Oakville in September 2027, and adjusted English and French Immersion at three existing schools.

Approved. A decision has been taken. It has not necessarily taken effect.

This is the largest school boundary decision in Oakville in years, and it is already made. A new secondary school, referred to as Oakville NE #1 HS, is due to open in September 2027, and a new school needs a boundary. Drawing one means taking territory from the schools around it.

Trustees initiated the review on 4 November 2025 with four objectives: create a boundary for the new school, realign French Immersion boundaries south of Dundas Street, review whether the French Immersion programme at T.A. Blakelock High School is still viable given falling enrolment, and consider what could be housed at the White Oaks Secondary School north campus.

On 5 May 2026 the Board of Trustees approved Option 3. The board describes implementation as running over a three-year-plus timeframe from September 2027, with legacy exemptions and transportation for students who stay at an existing school, and courtesy seats for younger siblings until the older sibling graduates.

One part of the decision is conditional. The board resolved that the approved French Immersion boundaries north of Dundas Street are subject to the outcome of the Northwest Oakville Elementary Boundary Review, so that Grade 8 cohorts are not split between two secondary schools.
